Born in Giles County, TN., Claude Alvin Waldrop, Jr., is the nephew of WW I veteran, Allan 'Eugene' Barlar, and the older brother of WW II Navy veteran, Rayburn Cole Waldrop.

"Claude served as a crew member aboard a B-24, flying missions over Japan. On one of those missions, they got hit in mid-flight and the plane's fuel tank caught on fire. Claude saved their bacon that day when he was able to finally put out that fire."
