Welcome to Teaching Arabic in Challenging Times
Workshop Abstract
The dawn of the technological age and its ineffaceable implications on our lives as educators and on the lives of our students, propels the second language teacher today to seek informed choices with regards to integrating and situating different digital technologies in the broader methodological context of Foreign Language (FL) teaching and learning. Ditters (2006) attests that a good practice is for language teachers to select technology applications on the basis of their own didactic criteria.
This workshop will :
• present some principles for how to integrate technology meaningfully in the Arabic language classroom.
• provide hands on practice on how to prepare an Arabic lesson integrating different technologies with purpose.
It will also present to Arabic teachers examples of how different technologies (blackboard, podcasts, blogs, websites, moviemaker etc...) are used in everyday Arabic language teaching to enhance, motivate, assess Arabic language learning, achieve course learning outcomes and encourage maximum student participation at the different levels of proficiency.
