Laurel Bruce, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Laurel Bruce, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist who has worked in both public and private school settings, with a focus on earliest interventions for speech sound disorders.  She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at Arizona State University, and is a graduate of Barrett, The Honors College.  Laurel is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Speech and Hearing Science at ASU.  Her research interests include speech sound disorders, genetics of communication disorders, school-based issues, and the history of speech-language pathology.

Yookyung Kim, M.S.

Yookyung Kim is a graduate student pursuing her doctoral degree in Speech and Hearing Science at ASU. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in Linguistics at Pusan National University in South Korea. Her research interest lies in the early identification and intervention of children at risk for speech and language disorders which led her to join the Babble Boot Camp to further investigate the biological background of speech and language disorders.

Gabrielle Abrams, B.S., M.S.

Gabrielle is currently a graduate student at ASU pursuing her doctoral degree in Translational Genetics of Communication Abilities under the Auditory & Language Neuroscience program.  She previously earned her Masters in Science at ASU as well in Auditory & Language Neuroscience.  Her research focuses on genomic exome analysis in ADHD and Dyslexic populations in order to better understand the genetic significance with relation to behavioral and neural correlates using electroencephalographic and fMRI modalities.  Gabrielle has been part of the BBC since 2019 and conducts language assessments, coordinates questionnaire fidelity, assists in participant recruitment and is the BBC Facebook and Instagram liaison.

Madisyn Clark

Madi has been part of the Babble Boot Camp Transcription Team since May 2022. She is in a Reliability position and checks the transcriptions of the children's babbles to verify accuracy. Madi is a Junior pursuing a Speech and Hearing Science major. She is also an online representative for NSSLHA, ASU's Speech and Hearing club. After Graduation, she hopes to continue her education in graduate school to obtain a master's degree to become a Speech Pathologist. 

Emily Reed

Emily Reed is currently a senior B.S. student in ASU's Speech and Hearing Sciences program. When she is not studying or working, she enjoys reading, painting and spending time with others. She has been involved with BBC since May, 2021.

Linda Eng, B.A., B.S.

Linda Eng is interested in the application of early intervention mechanisms to infants and toddlers at risk for developing speech and language disorders. Linda started volunteering with the Babble Boot Camp on the transcription project while completing the postbaccalaureate certificate in communication sciences and disorders. She is now involved with recruitment/onboarding new participant families, processing LENA devices, LENA mailing, database management, and working with families to set up remote recording devices.

Avani Tamhankar, BS

Avani graduated with a major in Biomedical Sciences and minored in Global Health. She joined the Babble Boot Camp in May of 2021 and assisted Dr. Bruce with the implementation fidelity and also helped with doing reliability checks for the questionnaires. She graduated in December of 2022, she will be applying to medical school in May.  

Madeline Ovaska

Maddie Ovaska was a Junior pursuing a Speech and Hearing Sciences degree and planning on continuing her education to become a Genetic Counselor. Maddie was involved in Barrett, the Honors College, Honors Devils, NSSLHA, and her sorority -- Chi Omega. She was part of BBC August 2022. 

Andrea Nazareno, B.S.

Andrea graduated in May, 2023 and hopes to work as an SLPA before going to graduate school to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. 

Makayla Bulman, B.S.

Makayla was a member of Babble Boot Camp, April-December 2022. She was responsible for scoring the questionnaires that each participant submits. Along with scoring, she also assisted with the mailing department. Her major area of study was speech and hearing sciences, with a minor in family and human development. In December, she graduated from ASU as a licensed SLPA. Makayla is now a full-time position as an SLPA at the Arizona Autism Charter School District.   

Briana Huls, B.S.

Briana has been a part of the Babble Boot Camp phonetic transcription team for over a year. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from ASU in May, 2022 with a B.S. degree in Speech and Hearing Science. Briana also has two associate degrees in Communication and Deaf studies. She is currently working towards becoming a C-SLPA and has been accepted to Baylor University to pursue a M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. 

Sarah Cotter, M.S.

Sarah graduated from the Communication Disorders M.S. program at Arizona State University May, 2022. She was with the BBC project for over two years, transcribing monthly babble segments to calculate the complexity of a baby's babble. 

Emma Riggs, M.S.

Emma graduated from the Communication Disorders M.S. program at Arizona State University May, 2022. Emma has been involved in the Babble Boot Camp since 2018 when she was an undergraduate student at ASU. 

Alicia Belter, B.S.

Alicia was an ARES student who graduated with a BS in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Arizona State University. 

Melissa Stumpf, B.S.

Melissa was an ARES student who graduated with a BS in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Arizona State University. 

Hanako Yokoyama, M.S., CF-SLP

Hanako Yokoyama was a Graduate Research Assistant in the Peter Lab. She graduated with a Master's of Science in Communication Disorders from ASU in May, 2020. Her interests involve working with multi-cultural populations while completing her clinical fellowship in the Issaquah School District in Washington.

Caitlin Vose, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Caitlin Vose completed her Ph.D. concentration, "Translational Genetics of Communication Abilities" (TGCA) at ASU in 2018, mentored by Dr. Peter. In 2019, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Jonathan Preston's lab at Syracuse University. Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado as of January, 2020.

Taylor was a graduate research assistant working on the transcription project.

Caitlin Miner

Caitlin Miner is an undergraduate Speech and Hearing sciences student. While working in the Babble Boot Camp, she transcribed non-speech-like utterances, processed LENA devices, scored questionnaires and corresponded with participant families.

Hope Lancaster, Ph.D.

Hope Lancaster was a postdoctoral associate in the Peter Lab from 2015-2016.  She is now director of the Etiologies of Language and Literacy Lab at Boys Town Hospital.
