Below you can find links to resources and Canvas Guides that you may need for leading the course, such as sending email/messages, grading written work, grading discussions, and more. You are encouraged to review them each time you lead a course. Additionally, Quick Tip videos are available.

You may find it useful to attend an in-person workshop or online webinar about teaching online. ASU Online provides a full list of workshops and registration online. The University Technology Office also provides Canvas trainings and office hours online.

Group Configuration

Identify group assignments

  • Identify which group is assigned to you as a lead instructor

  • View the list of students in your group

NOTE: Some classes may have sub-groups or teams. Talk to your instructional design team about the configurations.

Student-Lead Instructor Communication

Add announcements

  • To communicate information with the entire class, you can make an announcement

  • To make an announcement to your group, please post the information in your group's Virtual Office discussion forum or send an email/message to your group

Send email/messages

  • Send email/message to individual user

  • Send email/message to all students in your assigned group

NOTE: Only the lead instructor should send email/messages to the whole class.
