GET INVOLVED!
Foreign Exchange students are strongly encouraged to get involved in a a variety of activities at Arlington High School. Interacting with Arlington students within and outside the classroom will provide you with a more enriching and meaningful cultural experience. Experience the life of an American teen by joining clubs, trying out for a sport, attending field trips, dances, games, and school concerts. There are many activities to choose from. Look for something that you know you will enjoy or take a chance and try something new!
ATHLETICS
Foreign Exchange students are eligible to try out for sports at AHS as long as they have not already earned a diploma at any other high school. We offer sports in three seasons, fall, winter and spring. Visit our Athletics website to see what sports are offered each season. You will also find information about when the seasons begin, tryouts, athletic fees, etc…
Suggestions for Foreign Exchange students regarding sports...
Some sports at Arlington High School are very competitive. Trying out for a sport does not guarantee a spot on many teams, especially in Football, Soccer, Hockey, Fall Football Cheerleading, and Baseball. However there are other sports that welcome most or all interested students on the teams This is due to the number of players allowed on a team, the level of interest in the Arlington community, and the skill level required to participate.
For students who are not strong athletes but want to try a sport, we recommend trying out for the following sports.
Winter Cheerleading (for Basketball team)
Cross Country
Swimming
Indoor Track
Field Hockey
LaCrosse
Volleyball
Another way to participate on a team sport is to become a Team Manager. Team Managers participate in practices, go to games, attend team dinners and enjoy the benefits of being part of a team without actually playing. They also do not have to pay the fee related to the particular sport. If you are interested in becoming a team manager, please contact Ms. Dglugolecki, our Athletic Director. (mdglugolecki@arlington.k12.ma.us)
Fall Sports
If you plan to try out for a fall sport, please be advised that you need to be in Arlington ten days before Labor Day (always the first Monday in September). Football starts the Friday before the other sports. See the Athletic Website for specific dates each year. Practices and tryouts will take place in August on these dates.
If you are interested in trying out for a sport, please let us know as soon as possible. We will have to apply for a waiver to make you become eligible to participate under our state athletic organization. To learn more about the rules we are required to follow as a school district under the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, please visit their website. MIAA
CLUBS
There are many clubs offered at the high school. They focus on a wide range of subjects that include academic, social, community service, political, environmental, art, social justice, and other fun themes. For a complete list of clubs, follow this link. AHS Clubs
