About Arlington and New England
The Town of Arlington was settled by European colonists in 1635 and has a rich history in early American life. The town covers 5.5 square miles of space in eastern Massachusetts and is considered a western suburb of Boston. Arlington has a public school system with nine schools and is consistently recognized for its excellence in education.
Due to its close proximity to Boston, Arlington residents take advantage of the rich culture, historical sites, theater, arts, museums, sports venues, restaurants, universities and libraries that the city of Boston has to offer. It is a short drive to Boston (6 miles) or an easy ride on the bus/train (MBTA). Bus and train services from Arlington are available for travel to a large number of locations north, south, east, and west of the town.
Massachusetts is one of the six states in the northeast corner of the United States in a region know as New England. The other New England states include Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to the north, and Rhode Island and Connecticut to the south.
Arlington is a short ride to many beaches and resorts along the eastern coast of New England from Cape Cod in southern Massachusetts to Maine to the north. New England offers many popular vacation sites in the mountains of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont all year round. The weather ranges from cold and often snowy in the winter to hot and often humid in the summer. The fall is beautiful with vibrant foliage decorating our trees and the spring provides a colorful array of blooming flowers and trees.
