The Symphonic Band is the core ensemble of the Auburn High School Band Program. Symphonic Band meets 1st period during quarters 2 (after marching band season concludes), 3, and 4. The band performs core repertoire from the traditional and contemporary works written for Wind Band. Participation in Symphonic Band will enrich the students' musicianship as they develop proficiency in advanced instrumental music fundamentals, including: tone production, balance, blend, intonation, technique, and musical expression. The students will also develop a knowledge of composers and music history and literacy as related to selected repertoire. The Symphonic Band performs at concerts and festivals throughout the year, including District Music Contest in the Spring.
The AHS Symphonic Band performed at the 2026 NSBA Concert Band Festival, held at Bellevue East high School. The students performed Blue Ridge Reel by Brian Balmages and The Great Locomotive Chase by Robert W. Smith. Following the performance, the band received feedback from one of the clinicians.
The AHS Symphonic Band took part in the 2019 NSBA Concert Band Festival. Students performed Toccata for Band by Frank Erickson, and Prelude and Passages by Roland Barrett. After the performance, the band received a clinic from a judge and were given ways to improve. Click on each of the pieces to listen to the performances.
The AHS Symphonic Band took part in the 2018 NSBA Concert Band Festival on March 28, 2018. Students performed American Riversongs by Pierre La Plante, and Fate of the Gods by Steven Reineke. After the performance, the band received a clinic from a judge and were given ways to improve.
The AHS Symphonic Band was honored to perform at the NSBA Concert Band Festival held at Kimball Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The students performed the Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst/arr. Robert Longfield. They had a great experience performing this landmark piece of wind band literature and having a feedback session with the clinician following the performance.
