Sign up for an audition group on the Theatre Door. Choose ONE audition date (EITHER Sept 15 OR Sept 17).
Pick up an audition form from the Theatre Door or print the form found BELOW
Fill out your audition form with your adult at home. Students MUST have their parent/guardian sign their form BEFORE auditioning.
Bring your audition form with you to your audition. (DO NOT turn it in early.)
During your audition, you will be expected to participate in a few different activities to show the directing team what you can do. You can expect to do the following:
Read lines from the show. The audition sides [excerpts from the script] are BELOW if you would like to familiarize yourself with them before your audition day
A synopsis and character descriptions are on the FALL COMEDY page
During the reading, you will be assigned a character to read. But rest assured, you will be considered for characters other than what you read.
Be bold! Show us your take on a character and give us expression with your voice and face when you read the lines!
Perform a scene that you and your group make up based on a prompt given to you by the director. (This allows directors to see what you can do physically in a scene.)
What is a Callback?
A callback is an additional chance to show the directors what you can do! If you are given a callback, give it your all! You may be asked to read lines, sing, dance, do a physical improvisation (like charades), etc. This is another chance to show your skills and versatility as an actor. The directors may provide some specific direction to see what you can do with a character, or the directors may give you something more open-ended. Use this as an opportunity to grow and show what you can do!
If I don't get a callback, does that mean I won't be cast?
NO! We have cast many characters in past productions without needing to see actors for a callback. Some actors provide such a strong audition for a part in their first audition that they are not needed for a callback.
If I get a callback, that means I'll be cast as some role, right?
No. A callback is just another chance to show the directors what you can do, but if you don't fit a role (or someone else has a strong audition for the role the directors were looking at for you), you may not be cast. There have also been times in the past when the directors wanted to cast someone for an ensemble or smaller role in the past, but did not cast a student because they indicated only "Lead" or "Lead or Medium" role on their audition form.
What should I expect to do in a callback?
You may be asked to read lines, sing, dance, improvise movement, or all of the above! On the callback list, we'll indicate symbols for any songs that you will be asked to sing in the callback. If you are asked to sing something, the music director will work with you briefly, but it is recommended that you look at the tracks posted online ahead of the callback to give yourself more preparation and practice.
