Kao Kalia Yang visited Weaver Lake STEM Elementary on January 31, 2020. She is a Hmong American author and read her first picture book, A Map into the World, illustrated by Seo Kim, to all students. Students then had the opportunity to ask her questions. She talked about her upcoming books and we are excited to see them.

We are fortunate to have local Maple Grove Author, Brandon Vreeman read this new book to students in Grades K-4. Mr. Vreeman will lead a discussion about the meaning of the story and the process in which he made his book. He will be visiting Weaver Lake on Monday, February 5, 2018 and Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
Chris Grabenstein, Author of "Escape from Lemoncello's Library, " visited Weaver Lake Elementary on November 20, 2015.
After a brief presentation about his writing process, Mr. Grabenstein randomly selected students to generate a sentence, a protagonist or hero and name his special superpower, an event, a place, an antagonist. These students were also given pieces of paper to write a fun word.
Weaver students selected these story components:
A unicorn likes rainbows. - sentence
One direction is awesome. - Mr. Grabenstein's ending sentence.
Not afraid of cats! - Hero's superpower
Joe - protagonist's name
Olympics - event
Jamaica - a place
Johnny the carrot - the antagonist
Wants to rule the world! - the antagonists goal
From these components Mr. Grabenstein created the story in the video.

Wednesday, October 21, 2015—Second Grade classes read the book Pumpkin Time by Author, Erzsi Deak, who lives in Southern France. The story’s theme is about perseverance and focusing on a task despite a variety of distractions. The story takes place through the seasons with the main character focusing on growing a garden and a very special pumpkin. Mrs. Deak spoke to the students about the writing process of writing and RE-WRITING many times to get words just right.
May 19, 2015 - Author Janie B. Cheaney skyped with 6th grade students about her latest book, "Somebody On This Bus is Going To Be Famous". Check this book out of your public library this summer!
INTRODUCING RYAN JACOBSON!
Author Ryan Jacobson visited Weaver Lake Elementary on February 2, 2009! Ryan Jacobson is the author of eight children's books with several other projects in various stages of production. He lives in Mora, Minnesota, with his wife Lora and their adopted son Jonah. Ryan works as a book editor and marketing specialist for a small press company. He has extensive experience working with children, dating back to his days as a summer camp counselor. His favorite part of being an author is presenting to schools and making public appearances.

March 1, 2016 - First Grade students skyped with Author Keila V. Dawson and learned about the King Cake and about the Mardi Gras culture in New Orleans.
Author and Illustrator Bill Cotter read "Don't Push the Button" and "Hello Airplane" to Kindergarten and 4 Star students on Thursday, March 19, 2015.
On April 15, 2014, Fantasy Author Bryan Davis talked about elements of fantasy writing with 3rd, 4th and 6th grade classrooms.
On Thursday, March 19, 2015, fourth grade students had a virtual author visit with Simon Nicholson, author of Young Houdini, The Magician's Fire.
