Help save lives! The Park Center National Honor Society holds multiple blood drives per year through Memorial Blood Centers. Students must be 16 years of age or older to donate. 16 year old students must have a parent/guardian consent form signed in order to be allowed to donate. Other donor eligibility requirements are listed in the documents below, including height and weight requirements. Please check the guidelines carefully before you sign up to make sure you qualify.
Tips to help ensure a successful donation experience:
Wait approximately 3 months after making a whole blood donation before donating again.
Get a solid night’s sleep before donating.
EAT BREAKFAST! Eat a full meal within 6 hours prior to your appointment.
Make iron-rich foods part of your daily diet. Consider taking an over-the-counter iron supplement if you donate two or more times per year. Low hemoglobin (not enough iron in the blood) is the most common reason donors are deferred and not able to donate blood.
Avoid strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting for 24 hours after donating. Are you in sports or other activities? Don't schedule a blood donation the same day as a big game, meet, or performance. Take it easy during practice. Suggestions are here for athletes.
Make sure your system is fully hydrated. Drink 16 ounces or more just prior to donating and plenty of fluids for the remainder of the day.
After donating, please spend at least 15 minutes in the café area.
