Portfolio - 5 credits (recommended for grades 11 and 12)
A minimum of at least two visual art courses must be completed as a prerequisite for Art Portfolio. Art Portfolio is for students who want to explore a career in the arts. Students will build an art portfolio while exploring new possibilities in the communication of ideas through the visual language of art. Emphasis is placed on the continuation of developing visual art skills and techniques. We use a variety of mediums in two dimensions and three dimensions. The fundamentals of composition in the element and principles of design will be used with a focus on imagination using realistic and abstract themes. This course blends instructor demonstrations, weekly sketches, hands-on art making, group critiques, photographing work, artist statements and displaying art work. Students will also participate in an annual art sale or show. Students are expected to attend class daily and actively participate in all aspects of the course including cleanup. Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to work the entire block. School policies outlined in the student handbook regarding behavior and technology will be honored in the classroom.
