Fiber Arts is recommended for students who enjoy working with fabric and yarns. Emphasis is placed on developing basic fiber art skills and techniques. We use a variety of fabrics, thread, yarn, needles, and a sewing machine. The fundamentals of composition in the element and principles of design will be used with a focus on imagination using realistic and abstract themes. This course blends instructor demonstrations, brainstorming, drafting, hands-on art making, group critiques, photographing work, artist statements and displaying art work. Students will also participate in an annual art sale or show. Students are expected to attend class daily and actively participate in all aspects of the course including cleanup. Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to work the entire block. School policies outlined in the student handbook regarding behavior and technology will be honored in the classroom.
