HEYYYYY!!! So this is your alternative assignment since you have missed more than 2 days during the simulation. You will need to read through the handouts attached about a case State v. Smith. This case is unique because it happened in Ohio and this is an Ohio State Supreme Court case. So the cool thing is, after you read through this packet, you will get to watch the actual case take place. Once you have read through the packet and watched the case online, you will then need to complete the assignment. You have 1 week from the day this is given to you.

Introduction – Tell me a basic intro about what is happening (1 paragraph 4-5 sentences).
Body – You will describe both sides and what their stance and argument is (4 paragraphs – 2 per side).
Appellate Lawyer: What are his key points, what are his strengths, and what are his weaknesses?
Respondent Lawyer: He represents the state – what are the key points, strengths & weaknesses.
Opinion – I want you to act like a Supreme Court Justice. What is your opinion? Based on the law, explain what you feel is right or wrong? Should police officer have to obtain a warrant to search a phone? What if the person was arrested first for illegal activity, should a warrant be obtained then? You must have 3 cited sources (MLA/APA) that backs up your opinion/argument in the case. Use case law or past cases in the SCOTUS to help you.
Conclusion – While watching the case, tell me your thoughts about the Supreme Court? Do you like the process of structured argument and questions from the Justices? Does the courtroom look differently than you expected? Wrap up the case in this conclusion with your thoughts about anything and everything from what you saw and did.
