An email with details regarding Orientation Day 1 and 2 will be sent out the week of orientation. This email will come from MAP AULA and will be sent to both your personal and Antioch emails. Please read and follow the directions on the email. If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out to mapprogram.aula@antioch.edu.
You will be assigned a Senior Academic Advisor at Orientation Day 1. Please check your orientation packet for this information.
You will be provided information on how to register during orientation and you will register the week after orientation.
ALL first quarter MAP students are required to take PSY-5450 Society and the Individual. Many first quarter students are also required to take PSY-5100 - Intro to Psychological Theory and Practice as a condition of your admission to the program. Your admissions offer will confirm if you are required to take PSY-5100.
The Antioch MAP program has no tests, but we do measure a student's learning. Likewise, supporting the student is important to the Antioch MAP program. There are two reviews of writing a newly enrolled student engages in: First, the student's application is reviewed to see if there is a need for general writing support (for "provisional admittance"). Second, all newly enrolled students are required to submit a one and a half to two-page academic writing assessment for academic writing ability at Orientation Day 2. The second writing assessment will be issued at the Writing Expectations lecture and submissions will be analyzed for whether or not the student should have academic writing support.
Details about a required writing assessment will be given to you during orientation. Based on this assessment, you may be required to complete PSY-5000W – Graduate Writing in your first quarter. You may take PSY-5000W even if you are not required to do so, and the course is offered to all students at no cost.
You are allowed to take any core classes that do not have a prerequisite requirement. The most common classes taken during the 1st quarter in addition to the required course PSY-5450 Society and the Individual, the suggested track for 1st Quarter Students includes PSY-5310A - Theory of Personality I and PSY-5410F-Assessment of Psychopathology. Please review the tracking sheet in your orientation packet which contains the full list of the required courses for the program.
Reading lists and required texts can be found in the course syllabi, which are located on the MAP Student Resource site. Required books can be purchased through the Antioch bookstore, or at any online retailer.
To join a cohort class as a non-member, please register for the “X” section of that course (e.g. “SA43” for cohort members, and “SA43X” for non-cohort members). Seating will be limited to the capacity of the course minus the number of students who are members of the cohort. Note that your registration will appear as waitlisted until week 13.
Yes. While seats in specialization courses are reserved for students who have declared that specialization, any unclaimed seats in the course will be made available to all enrolled students on the Friday of week 11.
To join a specialization-priority class as a non-member of that specialization, please register for the “X” section of that course (e.g. “CA4” for specialization members, and “CA4X” for non-specialization members). You must take the gateway course for the specialization prior to taking a specialization course.
Seats for waitlisted courses are made available to students on the waitlist on a first-come-first-serve basis. If a student who is registered for a waitlisted course chooses to drop the course from their schedule, the seat is automatically offered to the person next on the waitlist. If a seat in a class for which you are waitlisted becomes available, and you are the next person on the waitlist, you will receive an email notification from the Registrar’s office with instructions for claiming the available seat. *You will have 48 hours to claim a seat in the class.*
PLEASE NOTE: Instructors do not have the power to allow students into courses above the course capacity.
Yes. If you intend to join a course, please be sure to attend the two sessions of the class meeting, even if you are unsure about whether you will be formally admitted. Waitlisted students who do not attend the first two class meetings will be ineligible to obtain credit.
If a seat opens for a course you are waitlisted for and you have attended all sessions of the course, you will be allowed to formally register for the course during the Add/Drop window.
Yes. Classes may, from time to time, be cancelled. The most common reason for a course cancellation is under-enrollment. Most courses are not considered viable if there are less than 10 students enrolled. While there are exceptions to this rule, in general, a course that has less than 10 students registered will be considered for cancellation. If a course is cancelled, the students enrolled in the course will be notified via email, with enough time for them to make alternative arrangements to their schedule if necessary.
It is typically best to email your instructor directly, should you need to contact them. To do so, simply type their name in the “To:” field of a new email. The appropriate address should appear automatically.
