The Personal Psychotherapy Requirement:
Two 10-week, hour-long sessions of psychotherapy are required for students in the MAP program.
One set of sessions must be taken BEFORE beginning your clinical placement, while the second set must be taken DURING your clinical placement.
Therapy sessions must take place at least once a week. The sessions must take place for two 10-week sessions (6 months) -- six months with one therapist, or two different three-month therapists.
The requirement can be met with live, in-person, face-to-face sessions, which can be individual, couples, family, or group therapy. Sessions may be conducted via telephone or videoconferencing.
***No units of credit are given for psychotherapy***
Prior to completing the Form C.1, please fill out the MAP Personal Psychotherapy -Therapist Confirmation Form to confirm that your therapist is LICENSED IN CALIFORNIA as an LMFT, LPCC, psychologist, LCSW, or board-certified psychiatrist. Associates, trainees, psych assistants, hypnotherapists, nurse practitioners, and pastoral counselors are not acceptable to meet this program requirement for the AULA MAP Low Residency program.
Form C.1 Directions
Each student must complete and submit the Form C.1 after they have completed ten consecutive sessions of psychotherapy. Students MUST complete TWO 10-week sessions of psychotherapy AND must submit the Form C.1 for EACH 10-week session that they complete. Students will meet the personal psychotherapy requirement by submitting two of these forms for each 10-week session of personal psychotherapy.
1. Attach a business card for the therapist or Psychology Today profile link.
2. Provide a list of dates that you attended therapy and have the therapist sign below to confirm you attended therapy on the given dates.
3. The student MUST sign the Form C.1, which states that they have completed 10 sessions of weekly psychotherapy (one session/week). These 10 sessions must be done in consecutive weeks.
The Form C.1 must be submitted via email to: therapyform.aula@antioch.edu at the end of each term you complete 10 sessions. You will submit a total of two forms.
Students may engage in therapy with Antioch adjunct faculty. In order to avoid conflict of interest, students may not take a class from someone who has ever been a therapist for them or for a member of their immediate family (It is permitted to engage in therapy with someone who was formerly your instructor, but you may not take any new courses with that instructor.) Also note that you may not engage in therapy with core faculty members, academic advisors, your clinical supervisor(s), relative(s), business associate(s), intimate partner(s) (past or present), or any other such roles.
