Extra Practice: Reading, Writing & Language
Below are research/evidence based activities that you can do at home to help your child improve in reading, and they aren't just for students who are in RtI. All children could benefit from extra reading and math practice.
Phonics
Alphabet Flashcards: Choose 5-10 letters or sounds at a time to focus on. Practice saying letter and sound. Once a child can say the flashcard 3 times in a row correctly, add a new card. Work on Letter and Letter Sound identification
Sight Words
Sight Word Flash Cards: Choose 5-10 words at a time to focus on. Practice saying the words correctly within 3 seconds. Once a child can say the flashcard 3 times in a row correctly, add a new card.
Fluency
Read Aloud to your Child.
Have your child Read Aloud to You
Comprehension
Read Aloud to your Child and talk about what you have read.
Have your child Read Aloud to you and have them retell what they read.
