A "cottage industry" of books written by writers for writers populates the shelves of any real or virtual bookstore. Reading any of these guides is likely to help you move your own work forward, but the sheer number of choices can be overwhelming. To help save you a bit of time, I have collected notes on some of the works I have read; these contain my ultra-brief overview of how any particular book might be different from the others and my thoughts on the potential usefulness of particular snippets from some of these books for writing short-form memoir.
Links to listings for books on Amazon are provided so that you can easily find reviews and summaries by editors and readers; these links do not imply an endorsement of purchasing through online vendors. The list is neither exhaustive nor complete - simply a brief summary of what I've found useful in getting started.
