The Upper Tanana linguistic group is associated with the headwaters of the Tanana and Copper Rivers (Kari 1997). The list was received as a .pdf, typed and georeferenced by Gerad Smith (final edits pending). This list of indigenous place names and locations was compiled by primarily by Dr. James Kari, with contributions from Rick Ganley and Norman Easton. The information draws on numerous first hand interviews with fluent native speakers of the Upper Tanana Athabaskan language. These speakers draw on a large body of indigenous geographic knowledge which has been passed down through centuries. The names list is designed to accompany the published Upper Tanana Place Names Lists and maps, ed. by James Kari (Fairbanks: Alaska Native Language Center, 1997).
