This list of indigenous Ahtna place names and locations was compiled by Dr. James Kari, building on decades of research. The information draws on numerous first hand interviews with fluent native speakers of the Ahtna language. These speakers draw on a large body of indigenous geographic knowledge which has been passed down through centuries. The Ahtna list has been compiled by Dr. Kari, and georeferenced by Gerad Smith and several additional researchers over the years through file exchanges. The record includes the Dene spelling, glossary identification, and basic English translation. See Kari 2013 and Kari and Fall 2016 for the published list of Ahtna place names.
