IB CAS Advisors
The role of the IB CAS Advisor is to monitor, support and assist students as they work towards completion of CAS Experiences and their IB CAS Requirements. This is done through regular meetings, discussions and formal interviews where student work can be reviewed and developed.
Remember, the goals of our CAS program are to develop students who:
Enjoy and find significance in a range of CAS experiences
Purposefully reflect upon their experiences
Identify goals, develop strategies and determine further actions for personal growth
Explore new possibilities, embrace new challenges and adapt to new roles
Actively participate in planned, sustained, and collaborative CAS projects
Understand they are members of local and global communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment
WHAT ARE THE STUDENT REQUIREMENTS TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE CAS?
1) Complete a balance of 'significant' Creativity, Activity and Service experiences during their time as an IB student.
2) Base these choices on a combination of student interests, talents and areas for growth.
3) Complete meaningful reflections throughout the CAS process in ManageBac
4) Complete one CAS Project during your time as an IB Student
5) Demonstrate an ability to Investigate, Plan, Run, Reflect and Share CAS Experiences
6) Meet regularly (1 x monthly) with your CAS Advisor, including for CAS Interviews
7) Meet all 7 CAS Learning Outcomes
8) Maintain a positive attitude about CAS!
CAS Completion Check List for Advisors
WHAT DO ADVISORS NEED TO KNOW AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?
1) Meeting on a 1x monthly basis with student for 10-15 minutes. These are 'check-in' meetings to see how student experiences are developing, approve new experiences that have been added, and provide feedback on student reflections. (Follow this handy checklist)
2) Communicate with the CAS Coordinator about any student issues or problems.
3) Conduct a more formal CAS Interview in Spring of Y1 and a final interview in February of Y2 .
4) Provide feedback to student and parent with a Report Card comment at the end of Semester 2 in Grade 11 and at the end of Semester 1 in Grade 12.
5) Assist students with the 5 CAS Stages as necessary: Investigation, Planning, Action, Reflection and Demonstration
6) Be familiar with the 7 CAS Learning Outcomes and be able to evaluate student success in each
