The list of things students can do for their SAE is quite broad (for a list of suggestions see the document below). Some common examples DE students have done for their SAEs are:
Afterschool crew - we have approximately 20 positions open for students to do their SAE at the Agriculture facilities at DEHS during Power Hour & afterschool
Landscaping - maintaining the landscape at home, installing new landscaping at home, starting a landscape/lawn mowing business
Gardening - maintaining a vegetable garden for the family or to sell.
Poultry - raising chickens, ducks etc and showing the animals at the fairs and/or selling the eggs
Livestock - raising or working for someone who raises horses, cattle, pigs, sheep or goats
Rabbits - raising registered rabbits to show at the fairs and/or selling offspring
Composting/Earthworms - starting a composting bin (with or without worms) to use the compost at home or sell the compost or compost 'tea'
Rearing insects - raising insect that are beneficial for gardens (lady bugs, lace wings, etc.) and/or mealworms to be used/sold as pet food.
Job Shadowing -
Mechanics - build, repair or maintain something used in agriculture (wood working or metal projects for the garden, service lawnmowers, repair or install an irrigation system.
