Course Description

Junior English is a course designed to develop close reading, discussion, analysis, and interpretation skills using a variety of texts. Additionally, students will focus on developing knowledge and skills for the required state ACT exam.

Students will demonstrate comprehension through a variety of genres, including short stories, plays, essays, poetry, novels, and non-fiction. Students will also produce a variety of written pieces using appropriate spelling, grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary including literary analysis, persuasive research, personal narrative/memoir, and creative writing.

Texts

Students will read a wide variety of texts including fiction and non-fiction items. All texts will be provided to students and / or may be checked out from the school's book depository. Some of the novels we may read this year include the following:
