Application Questions

Is Legacy High School Open to Choice?

    • No, Legacy has been closed to choice. Students who are accepted into Legacy 2000 are automatically enrolled into Legacy High School. Legacy 2000 should not be used as an entry point for Legacy High School. This program is for students who are truly interested in Legacy 2000 and the rigor that comes with it. Students L2k this to gain entry to Legacy High School run the risk of being sent back to their home school if they are removed or do not continue in the program into their sophomore year.

Does Legacy 2000 take students from outside of Adams 12 boundaries?

    • Legacy 2000 is not open to students that are outside of Adams 12 boundaries.

Does Legacy 2000 take students from outside its high school boundaries?

    • Legacy 2000 is open to Adams 12 district students. However, we can only take up to 40% of our incoming students from outside our high school boundary. Students that are enrolled in the program from out of boundary addresses must remain in the program in order to remain at Legacy High School. Any out of boundary freshman who is removed from the program or decides not to continue into their sophomore year will be sent back to their home school.

Why does Legacy 2000 have applications take place at the school?

    • We do this to standardize this process. Applications that are done at home are likely to be influenced by family and support from the internet. In this way we can see what our applicants think and all students are held to the same standard.

What do I need to bring to my application session?

  • You need to make sure you have correct contact information. This includes, name, student number (if already have an Adams 12 student ID), home address, phone number, and email address. Also needed will be a copy of your middle school standardized test data. We specifically want 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Math and Reading scores. This can be accessed from your Infinite Campus account. It is often reported as the NWEA scores.

How do I find the application location in Legacy High School?

    • You can find the location on this Map

Can I apply after the application sessions have ended?

  • No students will be allowed to apply after our final application session. We do not have a rolling admission and instead use 5 application days at Legacy High School to complete applications.

Do my parents need to come with me during the application session?

    • Its not required but its a very good idea. Parents will receive additional information about our program and our process of evaluation. Current Legacy 2000 students from various grades will be available to answer questions about the program.

What happens if I don't provide the correct contact information (email, student ID, address, phone number)?

    • If you don't provide the correct contact information it could lead to your application not being evaluated and/or your notification being delayed.

How many students typically apply to Legacy 2000?

    • Anywhere from 180 to 250 students have applied to join our program in the past.

How many spots are available?

    • We take 96 students to join our program at the 9th grade year. No more than 40% of those 96 students can come from out of boundaries addresses and no less than 60% of students can come from Legacy High School's home boundaries.

How will I be notified of the decision about whether I got in our not?

    • The decision will be emailed to you using the student email provided to us during the application.

    • If you are placed on the wait list, that means we believe you could be a good fit for the program, but there are other students that are ranked ahead of you.

What happens if I am placed on the wait list?

  • We do not provide information on where students are located on the wait list, as it can be misleading. When we take students from the list we look at both your ranking and whether you are in our boundary or outside of our boundary. Giving you a ranking also creates unnecessary anxiety for students.

What happens if I don't get an email about the decision?

    • Then there was a problem with the email address you provided us. You can email program coordinator Jason Cianfrance (jason.cianfrance@adams12.org)

Do you allow students to shadow other students?

    • We do not allow shadow experiences as we often find its distracting to the current students and not always meaningful to see one day in the life of a Legacy 2000 student. In place of that you can schedule a meeting with members of our team and we can do our best of explaining in more detail any questions you might have.

If I get into the program what are my next steps?

    • When you receive your notification of acceptance you have a period of time to discuss our offer with your parents. We invite all of our accepted students to a contract signing night in February which officially enrolls you in our program when you sign our contract. Any student that does not sign a contract will be considered not interested and their spot will be made available to a student on our wait list.

Program Questions

What is probation and how does it work?

  • Students are required to sign a contract outlining our expectations for their participation in our program. Students who are in violation of this will be put on probation for one academic quarter. During this probationary time students work to get back in good standing with the program.

Academic Probation is the result of a student receiving a D or F in any academic class at quarter. They have one quarter to raise all their grades to C's and above during that probationary quarter. If they fail to do so they will be removed from the program.

Behavioral Probation is the result of a disciplinary action taken by the deans. This results in probation where any further discipline that year, or any grades that are below a C will result in the student being removed from the program.

In general, probation is a reminder to our students to get themselves back in good standing in the program. The vast majority of probationary students are able to do this. However is some cases students continue to have struggles and are removed from the program. Rather than punishing the student we view this as an opportunity to address the causes of their struggles without the weight of an additional challenging course like Legacy 2000.

Once a student is removed there is no way back to the program.

If I decide to break my contract what are the consequences?

  • Its important to understand that our contract is a document that outlines our expectations for participation in this program. The language in it is very important to understand. Students who sign our yearly contract have committed to remain in the program for the entire school year. Any student who breaks that contract will receive a withdraw/fail for the class. At the end of each contract its up to the student whether they would like to continue in the program. Each new year in the program students will sign a new contract.

Is Legacy 2000 a single class or many classes?

  • Legacy 2000 is a single elective class. It is designed to work in addition to the other required courses that Legacy and Adams 12 requires all students to take. The class is paired with the CP Science class offered at each level. For example the same students in L2k will attend CP Biology as a freshman. They will again be paired through CP chemistry as sophomores, CP (or AP Physics) as juniors. Their is no pairing at the senior level so that students can take any Math or Science AP coursework they would like.

Can Students in Legacy 2000 participate in other sports, music program, clubs?

  • Yes students in this program often have many diverse academic and extracurricular interests. You can be successful at both. However, students that take on too much too early in high school can experience difficulty. Students in Legacy 2000 need to understand that they must manage their time carefully if they are going to be successful in a variety of challenging program, sports, musical programs or clubs.

Does Legacy 2000 replace any required credits for graduation?

  • Legacy 2000 is a single elective class. It is designed to work in addition to the other required courses that Legacy and Adams 12 requires all students to take. The class is paired with the CP Science class offered at each level. For example the same students in L2k will attend CP Biology as a freshman. They will again be paired through CP chemistry as sophomores, CP (or AP Physics) as juniors. Their is no pairing at the senior level so that students can take any Math or Science AP coursework they would like.

What happens if I drop out (remove or withdraw) from the program?

  • Any out of boundary L2k student who is removed or decides to withdraw from the program during 9th grade or decide not to continue into 10th grade L2k will be sent back to their home school.

Does Legacy 2000 give me any college credits?

  • Graduation from the Legacy 2000 program itself does not give a student any college credit. However, every student in the program is encouraged to take as many AP courses as they see fit. Being in Legacy 2000 does not hinder a student's ability to earn AP credits. In fact, the skills learned in the Legacy 2000 program will make success in AP courses more attainable for students.

What are some places that previous students have shadowed during their junior year?
