Being absent means you miss out on class discussions, additional commentary or explanations not found on the power points, and the experience of hands on creating or performing, all of which is a part of learning. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Academy of Performing Arts, Dance Art is a performance-based course. Students will demonstrate understanding of technique, composition, performance and interpretation.  Through practice, theory and performance , students will discover historical understandings of the cultural impact dance has on society.  This course is designed to further student confidence as as ensemble members, solo performers, choreographers and directors to enhance their craft and prepare them for real world dance opportunities.

Medical & Absences/ Alternative Assignment

Students must make up missed work to receive participation credit. If a student is unable to participate in an activity due to a medical restriction or absence, written work will be assigned. Students have one week to make up work for full credit.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

• The student will be required to participate in Performing Arts Academy Concerts and a variety of community performances throughout the year.

• All students are expected to dress appropriately for class and follow the class/school dress code. Students are required to wear dance or athletic clothing to class. Students will need to purchase a pair of Dance Shoes for daily activities (See Uniform Policy Below). 

• Students are required to utilize their Chromebooks and have them charged before attending class.  

• Students will access the school email and Google Classroom regularly, and should submit the Dance Alternate Assignment in the event of an absence. 

• Students are required to work in diverse groups, sometimes with those having different skill levels or work ethics. It is within the scope of Career and Technical Education classes that students learn to act professionally, problem solve, and complete the task together to the best of their ability.

• Students will be required to perform in the Choreoproject Concert (Thursday Dec. 21st 2023) and the SPRING DANCE CONCERT (Friday May 10, 2024). Participation will require after school rehearsals and evening performances.

Dance Choreoproject: Dec. 21st 2023. ACIT Performing Arts Center at 6:30PM

• Mandatory Concert Tech & Dress Rehearsals will take place from 2:30pm. to 5:00pm. on 12/18, 12/19, 12/20

Spring Dance Concert: Friday May 10th, 2024. ACIT Performing Arts Center at 7:00pm

• Mandatory Concert Tech & Dress Rehearsals will take place from 2:30pm to 5:30PM. on 04/22, 04/23, 04/24, 04/25, 05/06, 05/07, 05/08, 05/09

Performing Arts Awards Night: Friday May 31st, 2024 @ ACIT Performing Arts Center at 6:00pm

*Dance Uniform supplies can also be purchased locally at Dance & Fitness Factory or Online at Discount Dance Supply. Items will be shipped directly to your home. Shoe samples are available in class for sizing.

* Additional layers of clothing other than the required items are to be removed at the beginning of class.

 *All pants must not exceed the ankle in length. If pants are too long, the dancer can lose control and fall.

• Ultra Soft Transition Tights (Capezio Style #1916) Choose the color that is closest to your skin tone. 

• Long Length Bike Shorts (Theatricals Style No: TH5137) Color: Black or

• High Waist Dance Leggings (Natalie Style No: N8642M) Color: Black, or comparable brand.

• Adult Camisole Double Layer Bra (Capezio Style No: 3683), or comparable flesh tone bra.

• Optional: Ballet Tie Wrap Skirt. Color: Black 

Option B Uniform: 

• Mens Short Sleeve Leotard, (Mariia Crown Style # ME638) Color: Black or

Lockers

Classroom lockers are provided for students in the dance studio for dance shoe storage. Students are required to bring a combination lock to safely store items. Cell phones must be turned off and placed in belongings during class.

Hair

Hair must be pulled up and secured to the head so as not to obscure the line of the neck.  It should be arranged so that it does not move during class or otherwise distract the dancer.  Long Hair must be in a bun for ballet class. Short hair must be pinned out of the face or held back with a headband.

Jewelry

Jewelry must be removed before class. No dangling earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc.

Costumes

Students are responsible for contributing to costume needs for class or stage performances.

The following uniform and violation requirements apply to all CTE programs as identified below. Students are expected to arrive to class prepared and dress into their appropriate uniforms. Students without the required uniform are not permitted to participate. This will result in a loss of points towards their daily grade. See Uniform Violation below.
