A little bit more about Mrs. Wilcox

Teaching in Acton:

This is my twenty-first year working as a teacher. It's my nineteenth year teaching sixth grade in Acton. I spent eight years teaching sixth grade at Gates where I taught all subjects and one year teaching social studies for 6th-grade in the Remote Learning Program. This is my tenth year at Conant, and over the years, I've taught various subjects including writing, English language arts, social studies, and science. This year I am teaching science and social studies.

Childhood:

I grew up in a southwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, but my parents are both from and now live in Rhode Island. Like many of you may have, I kept busy during summer vacation with my neighborhood swim team, town softball, Girl Scout resident camp, and family vacations to the East Coast. I grew up in a close-knit neighborhood where we played games such as running bases, rain-on-the-roof, and jailbreak on many hot summer days and nights. Our neighborhood held barbecues, water balloon fights, and adult croquet tournaments on summer holidays-the adults were required to wear crazy hats and costumes to enter the tournament!

College:

I graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, with a dual major in elementary education and history. I was also a member of the university's Honors College and spent one entire semester and portions of two other semesters studying abroad in the United Kingdom. I earned my Master's degree in elementary education from Framingham State University.

Family:

My husband and I have two daughters and one dog. We live a short walk from our neighborhood pond where we have a dock and love to spend time swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and spotting the wildlife. The osprey, bald eagle, great blue heron, and cormorants are my favorites. Most of my family lives in Rhode Island, but my sister lives in Ireland.

A Few of My Favorite Things:

My dog, Holly. She loves car rides, walks, and belly rubs.

My happy place to kayak, Sandy Pond.

My favorite costume, Ladybig Girl, from Read Across America Week.
