FAQ About Sora and Overdrive
Why is there only one copy of each book?
The publishers of books don’t allow us to have access where lots of people can read at the same time without lots and lots of money. We can buy some additional copies of popular books, but it is just like the print library. It helps us remember to always return books on time or early.
Why is the limit on books and the limit on time the way they are?
Overdrive lets each book go out for 2 weeks at a time. We can renew books, but we can’t keep them longer. There has to be a number, and this is the one. We allow our patrons to take 5 books at a time, which is many! Many libraries only allow 3 books at a time.
Why doesn’t Kindle work?
If you have an Overdrive account with a library within US borders (not AAS Overdrive) and with an Amazon account set for the US, then this option will work. Amazon does not allow the Kindle-Overdrive connection outside of the US and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that.
What if the book you want isn’t on Sora?
Ask us for it! Email library@aas.ru, kris.feller@aas.ru, or kelsey.hedrick@aas.ru to ask. We are happy to purchase things. Some things aren’t available because we are in Russia, but if it is there, we will usually get it for you.
What’s New? How do I know?
There is a Sora List of what is new that is automatically updated, so it is always correct. You can also do an advanced search for “Date Added”.
Do new books arrive after May 1?
Yes, we order books all of the time. Tuesday is usually the date that new titles are released by publishers, so we will often buy a new batch on Tuesday or Wednesday.
What other lists are there?
Some other excellent lists are: One-Sitting Picture Books, Escape, Quarantine, Librarian Favorites, I’m Bored Activity Books for Kids Stuck at Home, Belly Laughs and Giggles, Most Popular, and more. We will create some new lists during the summer as well. If you would like to suggest a theme then please let us know.
Are there non-Sora e-books?
Yes. You can find other subscription book options on our ebook and audiobook page and we are also posting free book access sites on our library resource padlet.
