Something rather interesting happened before a Tarot reading yesterday. And I think I need to explain a little bit about Hoogs first.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a session with a pet psychic, the lovely Astrid and what came through about Hoogs really helped me understand why he is in my life and the role he seems to play around me. Since then, I've found myself paying even more attention to him (if thats possible!). I already love him to bits — obviously — but I'm noticing the things he does, the way he behaves and the little nudges he gives me in a completely different way now.
Hoogs grounds me.
He also seems to communicate with me in his own way. Sometimes that's through what he does physically, sometimes it's simply a feeling or knowing, and sometimes I find myself communicating with him in my mind as well as talking to him out loud. Yes, I know how that sounds. 😂. B ut if you know me, you'll know I'm pretty comfortable with the fact that some things can't always be explained in a neat little box.
Anyway…
Back to the Tarot cards.
I normally like to spend a little time with the cards before a client arrives. I'll sit with the spread, tune into the energy around the person and see what starts to come through. That way, I've already got a feel for things before we begin, and we don't have to spend quite so much of the session doing that.
Except yesterday, the cards weren't playing ball.
At all. Every time I tried to read them, I felt completely blocked.
And then there was Hoogs. My boy Hoogs decided that the best place in the world to sit was directly on top of my Tarot cards. 😂. I moved him. He came back. I tried again. He sat on them again. It was almost comical — but at the same time, I couldn't seem to get anything meaningful from the cards.
And because of what had happened with the pet psychic a couple of weeks earlier, I couldn't help but wonder whether I should actually be paying attention to what Hoogs was doing rather than simply trying to move him out of the way. So I tried again. Eventually, I started to get some information, but what came through wasn't really about what I had expected to be looking at. It kept pointing me towards past lives.
And the feeling I was getting was almost, "Don't worry about where we are. Just wait."
So I did. And Hoogs stopped sitting on the cards. Coincidence? Maybe. But I certainly took notice.
Luckily, my wonderful client had allowed enough time for the session to unfold naturally, because once she arrived, the Tarot reading itself became the starting point rather than the whole session.
The cards highlighted what appeared to be a potential blockage, so we explored that through some NLP work. And then, rather unexpectedly — or perhaps not so unexpectedly given what had been coming through beforehand — we moved into past life regression. We did some work there, following what was presenting itself rather than trying to force the session in a particular direction. And that's one of the things I love about the way I work.
I don't work from scripts.
I don't decide beforehand that because you've booked a Tarot reading, we're going to do Tarot for the entire session.
And I don't assume that because something worked for someone else, it's automatically what you need.
Every person is different.
Every session is different.
Sometimes the cards give you exactly what you expect.
Sometimes they take you somewhere completely unexpected.
And sometimes, apparently, a very determined cat decides he's part of the reading too. 😂
For me, the important thing is being willing to listen and follow what is actually happening in front of me.
That might mean Tarot.
It might mean NLP.
It might mean hypnotherapy or past life regression.
And sometimes it might be a combination of things.
The session belongs to the person sitting in front of me — not to a script.
And yesterday was a pretty good reminder of exactly that.
And Hoogs?
Well, I'm listening, little man. ❤️
