Operating since 1994, the Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT) program has provided shared ride, curb-to-curb reservation transportation service to Suffolk residents who are unable to use the fixed route public bus service for some or all of their trips. SCAT was designed to increase mobility for people who cannot use our fleet of transit buses, which are wheelchair-lift equipped to accommodate a wide range of disabilities.
Eligibility for SCAT is determined using USDOT guidelines established for the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). To use the service you must be registered as an "ADA Eligible Rider."
The Access Pass permits residents of New York State with disabilities, as defined in the application, free or discounted use of state parks, historic sites, and recreational facilities operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The pass holder may have free or discounted use of facilities operated by these offices, for which there is normally a charge.
A non-driver ID is a photo ID card for someone who does not drive. A person at any age can get a non-driver ID card. You must apply in a DMV office.
Reduced fares are available for riders who are 65 or older or riders who have qualifying disabilities.
The reduced fare for subways and local, limited, and Select Bus Service buses is $1.45 (half the $2.90 base fare) at all times of the day for eligible customers.
On express bus trips, the reduced fare is $3.50 (half the $7 base fare). You will pay the reduced fare anytime except during weekday peak periods (6 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.).
On the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad, you can save up to 50% off the full one-way peak fare. You will pay the reduced fare anytime except weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. if traveling in the direction of NYC terminals. Read more about railroad fares, including reduced fares.
