Active vs. Passive Participation
Extra-curricular participation or work-based learning experience and an essay/presentation/product
Students earn 0.5 points for every 40 hours of active service - Students may earn this point multiple times
Active participation: students are directly engaged in actionable activities or “Community Service”.
Examples include:
Volunteering time at a Veterans Home.
Reading to elementary students.
Helping to organize and distribute food at the food pantry.
Working or volunteering for a political campaign, or school-based community event:
[Trick or Treat Street, Homecoming.]
Helping another group design or create posters for a community event.
[Student Gov’t helps Buddy Club]
Work-based learning experiences: job training or job skill building.

Passive participation: students are indirectly participating, fulfilling “Participation Hours.”
Examples include:
Bringing in donations to a cause: veterans, food pantry, pets, disaster relief.
Make posters at your club meetings for community events.
Attending meetings for clubs.
