The mission of R.C. Murphy Middle School’s Comprehensive Counseling Program aligns with the goals of the New York State Department of Education, the Three Village Central School District, and the Three Village Guidance Department. This counseling program is dedicated to supporting all students in achieving academic excellence, preparing for college and careers, and fostering personal and social growth.

The program ensures that every student has access to equitable, inclusive, and supportive educational opportunities that promote success as lifelong learners, leaders, and responsible citizens. Throughout their middle school experience, students will receive both direct and indirect counseling services that equip them with the essential skills for success in school and beyond.

A key component of the program includes comprehensive transition support to assist all students as they prepare for a successful move to Ward Melville High School.

The vision of R.C. Murphy Middle School’s Comprehensive Counseling Program is to cultivate a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where all students are encouraged to thrive beyond perceived limitations. In partnership with families and the broader school community, we work collaboratively to ensure the lifelong success of every student.

Our students are innovative, resilient individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, career and college readiness, and personal and social responsibility. As they progress through middle school, they develop the tools, strategies, and mindset necessary for continued success in high school and in life.

Graduates of our program become independent, hard-working, and engaged members of society. They approach challenges with effective problem-solving skills, embrace mistakes as valuable learning experiences, and consistently strive to meet the highest standards. Above all, our students use kindness and compassion to make a positive impact on the world around them.

R.C. Murphy's comprehensive school counseling program aims to follow the guidelines of the ASCA National Model.

"The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs” outlines the components of a school counseling program that is integral to the school’s academic mission and is created to have a significant positive impact on student achievement, attendance and discipline. The ASCA National Model guides school counselors in the development of school counseling programs that: 

• are delivered to all students systematically

• include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success

• close achievement and opportunity gaps

• result in improved student achievement, attendance and discipline
