The mission of R.C. Murphy Middle School’s Comprehensive Counseling Program aligns with the goals of the New York State Department of Education, the Three Village Central School District, and the Three Village Guidance Department. This counseling program is dedicated to supporting all students in achieving academic excellence, preparing for college and careers, and fostering personal and social growth.
The program ensures that every student has access to equitable, inclusive, and supportive educational opportunities that promote success as lifelong learners, leaders, and responsible citizens. Throughout their middle school experience, students will receive both direct and indirect counseling services that equip them with the essential skills for success in school and beyond.
A key component of the program includes comprehensive transition support to assist all students as they prepare for a successful move to Ward Melville High School.
The vision of R.C. Murphy Middle School’s Comprehensive Counseling Program is to cultivate a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where all students are encouraged to thrive beyond perceived limitations. In partnership with families and the broader school community, we work collaboratively to ensure the lifelong success of every student.
Our students are innovative, resilient individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, career and college readiness, and personal and social responsibility. As they progress through middle school, they develop the tools, strategies, and mindset necessary for continued success in high school and in life.
Graduates of our program become independent, hard-working, and engaged members of society. They approach challenges with effective problem-solving skills, embrace mistakes as valuable learning experiences, and consistently strive to meet the highest standards. Above all, our students use kindness and compassion to make a positive impact on the world around them.
All students should have equitable opportunities to achieve success at R.C. Murphy Middle School.
The school environment must be inclusive, safe, and welcoming for every student.
Students and school stakeholders should demonstrate mutual respect and appreciation for one another.
All school stakeholders must provide services that are developmentally appropriate and tailored to the individual needs of each student.
Each school should maintain strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the community through collaboration and referral efforts.
The School Counseling Program should be comprehensive in scope to achieve the most effective outcomes.
School counselors, in partnership with all stakeholders, must prioritize students’ needs and advocate for their safety, well-being, and success.
School counselors must adhere to ethical standards and professional guidelines to support sound and ethical decision-making.
School counselors must collaborate with teachers, social workers, psychologists, administrators, and other school personnel to implement a comprehensive and effective counseling program.
"School Counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. "The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs” outlines the components of a school counseling program that is integral to the school’s academic mission and is created to have a significant positive impact on student achievement, attendance and discipline. close achievement and opportunity gaps
result in improved student achievement, attendance and discipline
