1BAY is values driven, and in the process of establishing a not-for-profit that provides the following:
an apprenticeship program that serves young people interested in landscape art and design who are from historically marginalized cultures in American society.
a community gardens program: Each apprentice leads a community garden project in their home neighborhood to bring beauty, foood, or other installation that reflect and serve their home community.
a schools beautification program: We partner with Bay Area public schools leading a community input, design, and installation process to engage students, teachers, staff, and parents to beautify their school with low-water, low-maintenance, durable landscaping that reflects and uplifts the school community.
We also make regular donations to the following organizations in whose missions we deeply believe and support: Save the Bay, California Native Plant Society, The Greenlining Institute, and East Bay Regional Parks.
1BAY is a vision for a more equitably shared and sustainable greater San Francisco Bay Area. Through our collective enjoyment of charming, sensory-stimulating, functional, drought-tolerant gardens across the region we inspire each other toward a colorful, buzzing-with-life abundance and harmony that works indefinitely with what Mother Nature provides us here in semi-arid California.
My love for gardens was born when discovering the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park as a child. Since then, I have been in awe of plants, flowers, and creating enchanting spaces. I love working with clients to turn grand visions into living reality. Bay born and bred while also having lived and worked for stints in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, I bring both a measured perfectionism and world of experience into my passion for landscape design. I manage a community garden near my home in Oakland, have apprenticed with master designers, and am certified in dry garden design by the renowned Ruth Bancroft Garden. I hold a bachelors and masters degree from Stanford University and a Fulbright Distiinguished Award in Teaching from my first career as an educator.
