Ever Evolving Living Works of Art
OUR MISSION
The mission of 1BAY is to build community in the local and global movement for greater sustainability through the creation and curation of, and building of community around beautiful drought-tolerant landscaping and urban farms for homes, civic sites, commercial properties, and schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Sempervivum 'Gold Nugget'
At 1BAY we work under the principle of "measured perfectionism." We use meticulous technique to ensure the integrity, durability, and optimal appearance of our installations. As curators, we are committed to the 95% rule. That is, we work to a standard of 95% of perfection, and gladly to 100% if requested.
THE 1BAY 'MIDAS TOUCH' MEANS ...
We hand-select the best specimens and work with nurseries and wholesalers of the highest quality.
Moving too quickly leads to accidents. Our mantra is "steady, focused, careful." Achieving a consistent flow as we work, and getting it done right the first time, we balance efficiency for your budget's sake without compromising our stunning results.
No stone is left unturned, literally. We consider detail from the best positioning of a boulder or plant to how your garden will appear in the Spring versus the Fall.
We use mostly evergreen plants and care for them to maximize bloom periods and showcase their healthy foliage, providing a kaleidoscope of color through all seasons.
We have a growing network of local to international suppliers of premium, unique, or customizable features for your garden. Let us help you source the special features that make your landscaping extraordinary.
Mosses, lichens and other charming plants are all around our homes. We responsibly source these products to bring in unique hyperlocal natives not available in nurseries.
There is a reason landscapes are so often depicted in paintings. They are awe-inspiring. 1BAY landscape art can include miniaturized mountain ranges to a bromeliad adorned tree to using fencing as a canvas for an ever-evolving living wall display.
In line with our ethos of sustainability, we can recover and bring new life to rocks, bricks, wood, or other materials that have become buried or are in disepair in your yard space. For example in the above pictures the brick patio, rocks, and pallet that has become the "canvas" for a piece of living art on the fence were all recovered from the same yard.
According to Forbes, high quality landscaping can increase your property's value up to 20%, even when spending only 5% of your home's value on a project. Of course there is also the pricelessness that daily enjoyment of beautiful and functional spaces provide, not to mention the boost to your relationships with neighbors!
