BRIEF AWARD DESCRIPTIONS

AWARD CATEGORIES

Here is a brief explanation of each award. For more in-depth information please see the NAEA Award Packet.

 

Eisner Lifetime Achievement Award - to recognize individuals in the field of art education who have made a significant contribution to the field through their work as a teacher, lecturer, or artist.

 

Manuel Barkan Memorial Award - to recognize an individual who, through their published work in either Art Education or Studies in Art Education, has contributed a product of scholarly merit to the field of Art Education.

 

Marion Quin Dix Leadership Award - to recognize outstanding contributions and service to the profession by a current or past State officer in the performance and/or development of specific programs, goals, or activities at the State Association level.

 

Elliot Eisner Doctoral Research Award in Art Education - to recognize the value of doctoral research to the profession of art education and its related disciplines, to advocate on behalf of such research, and to foster continued support of doctoral research in art education.

 

Committee on Multiethnic Concerns (COMC) J. Eugene Grigsby, Jr. Award - To honor an individual(s) who has made distinguished contributions to the field of art education in advancing and promoting education, investigation, and celebration of cultural and ethnic heritage within our global community.

 

Lowenfeld Award - to honor an individual who over the years has made significant contributions to art education.

 

Charles M. Robertson Memorial Scholarship - a four year, partial scholarship to the Pratt School of Art & Design in Brooklyn, NY - to recognize brilliance in student art achievement and artistic involvement at the high school level.

 

National Art Educator Award - to recognize one NAEA member for extraordinary achievements and service of national significance during previous years.

 

National Division Art Educator Awards - to honor outstanding NAEA members from each of the six divisions, Elementary Art Educator, National Middle Level Art Educator, Secondary Art Educator, Higher Education Art Educator, Supervision/Administration Art Educator, and Museum Education Art Educator, for outstanding service and achievement of national significance during previous years.

 

Regional Art Educator Awards - to honor one outstanding NAEA member from each of the four regions for outstanding service and achievement of regional significance during previous years. Wyoming is part of the Pacific Region.

 

Regional Division Art Educator Awards - to honor outstanding NAEA members from each of the six divisions, Elementary Art Educator, National Middle Level Art Educator, Secondary Art Educator, Higher Education Art Educator, Supervision/Administration Art Educator, and Museum Education Art Educator, for outstanding service and achievement of national significance during previous years.

 

State Art Educator Award - to honor an outstanding NAEA member from each State Association for service and contribution to art education that merit recognition and acclaim.

 

Presidential Citation Award - to recognize a State Association that has made superior achievements contributing to the improvement of art education.

 

Distinguished Service within the Profession Award - to recognize outstanding achievement, contribution, and service in previous years to the field of art education.

 

Distinguished Service Outside the Profession Award - to recognize outstanding achievement and contributions in previous years by persons or organizations outside the field of art education.

 

State Association/ Issues Group Newsletter Award - to recognize excellence in the development and publication of a State Association or Issues Group newsletter either in print or online.

 

State/Association/Issues Group Website Award - to recognize excellence in the development and ongoing maintenance of a State/ Association or Issues Group website.

 

NAEA, The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), VSA Peter J. Geisser Special Needs Art Educator of the Year Award - to recognize an NAEA member who has made distinguished professional contributions to art education for students with special needs through scholarly writing, research, professional leadership, teaching, and/or community service.

 

NAEA, The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), VSA Beverly Levett Gerber Special Needs Lifetime Achievement Award - to recognize an NAEA/SNAE member whose exemplary lifetime career has made a unique and lasting impact on art education’s important role in the lives of people with special needs.

 

New Professional Art Educator Award - to recognize excellence and achievement by new art educators.

 

National Emeritus Art Educator Award - to recognize continuous outstanding service to art education by an individual before and after retirement.

 

Higher Education Student Achievement Award - to recognize excellence in student achievement in art education at the College/ University level.

 

Student Chapter Sponsor Award of Excellence - to recognize dedication to the development of future professional members of NAEA through sponsorship of an outstanding Student Chapter group at the college/university level.

 

Outstanding National Art Honor Society Sponsor Award - to recognize the dedication of an NAEA member who sponsors an outstanding NAHS Chapter.

 

Outstanding National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor Award - to recognize the dedication of an NAEA member who sponsors an outstanding NJAHS Chapter.

 

Rising Stars Secondary Recognition Program - to promote art education as a career by recognizing 50 talented, active NAHS Members.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

WYAEA follows the NAEA awards program. Award winners for WYAEA will be selected using the NAEA guidelines and rubrics. The nomination guidelines for all award categories are found in the NAEA Award Packet for download.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION

Please note the majority of the awards require membership to NAEA on or before October 1 of the year the nominee is being put forward for recognition.
