AWARDS PROGRAM OVERVIEW
THE AWARDS PROGRAM
It is one of the core values of WYAEA to award and recognize quality
Wyoming Art educators and Art programs. Award winners at the state level are recognized at our annual spring conference. State award winners are sent on to NAEA to be considered for national recognition. One award winner will be selected from all the award winners in a given year to receive the title and award of Wyoming State Art Educator of the Year. As the NAEA connection for Wyoming, WYAEA is responsible for reviewing nominations, and recommending nominees to NAEA for Wyoming Art Educator of the Year. Additionally WYAEA is charged with reviewing any regional division art awards relating to art educators in Wyoming. It is our goal to put forward as many nominations as possible each year to give art educators, art programs and supporters of art education in Wyoming the recognition deserved.
OBJECTIVE OF AWARDS
WYAEA is in agreement with the stated objectives of NAEA for having an awards program:
● To recognize excellence in the many outstanding individuals, state/province
associations, and programs of NAEA.
● To focus professional attention on quality art education and exemplary art
educators.
● To increase public awareness of the importance of quality art education.
● To set standards for quality art education and show how they can be achieved.
● To provide tangible recognition of achievement, earn respect of colleagues, and enhance professional opportunities for NAEA members.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES
WYAEA follows the NAEA awards program. Award winners for WYAEA will be selected using the NAEA guidelines and rubrics. The nomination guidelines for all award categories are found in the NAEA Award Packet.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION
Please note the majority of the awards require membership to NAEA on or before October 1 of the year the nominee is being put forward for recognition.
NOMINATION FORMS
Nomination Forms and a standardized Vita can be found here on page 14 or they can be found towards the end of the NAEA Award Packet.
THE PROCESS
Each year nominations are solicited from anyone willing to nominate a quality art educator or art program in the state of Wyoming. Nominations may be sent through WYAEA or directly to NAEA. Nominations sent to WYAEA are required to be completed and submitted by August 20, 2021 to be checked for completion and looked over by the awards committee. The committee meets once in August to review nomination packets and ensure completion, as well as selecting the Wyoming Art Educator of the Year before sending the nominations on to NAEA by October 1. The committee may meet again if needed, in the event any nominations were submitted directly to NAEA, then returned to the WYAEA to finalize state winners. The committee notifies the award winners in mid-December. Award winners are presented with their award at the state level at the WYAEA annual spring conference. Any nominees who are selected to be award winners at the national level are recognized at the NAEA annual convention, usually held the end of March.
THE RUBRICS
Rubrics for each award can be found here. WYAEA has decided to use NAEA's rubrics for selection of all awards at a state level. Additionally part of the award committee's task is vetting all nominations against the rubrics for the categories they are being recommended for.
THE COMMITTEE
The WYAEA President is tasked with forming a committee to select the award winners annually. The President-Elect is the committee chair, and the committee consists of the WYAEA President, WYAEA President-Elect, an additional WYAEA board member, a Wyoming Secondary Art Education Association (WSAE) board appointed representative and a Wyoming Arts Council (WAC) representative. The committee meets a minimum of twice a year, once in September and once in October, with additional meetings assigned as needed. Award winners will be notified in mid-December.
