The drive from Lilongwe to Blantyre covers 400km and takes about six hours on a good day. Fortunately the bus is reasonably well air conditioned and fully stocked with water.

The long drive south!

Aaron and Paul take us on the long drive South to Blantyre. But don't worry, they've got it all worked out - a suitable picnic spot, border controls, even a bit of retail therapy!

Dzaleka Camp

Look out for the Dzaleka Refugee Camp run by Feed the Minds for women and young people who have suffered conflict in neighbouring regions. We are supporting their vocational and literacy training programme to help improve their quality of life of these refugees. More >>

Lunch time!

Dedza pottery is well worth a stop. Not only does it make the beautiful pottery that can be found in most of the local hotels and restaurants and a few Edinburgh homes too, but they serve a delicious lunch outside on their tiled tables. Just get your order in quickly!

Smalls for All

Bras and pants are in short supply in Malawi and women who go without are subject to prejudice and sexual abuse. We pack spare suitcases with hundreds of bras that we have gathered over the year and share them with as many women as we can find, many of them on this road to Blantyre.

Mozambique border

For 60km between Dedza and Ntcheu, the road South is the unmanned border between Mozambique and Malawi. It's a good point to stop, stretch your legs and take a photo. No passports required!
