Das Dokumentarische im Digitalen
The Documentary and the Digital
Untersuchungsgegenstand des Projektes ist das sich momentan ausdehnende Spektrum interaktiver Praktiken des Dokumentarischen im Digitalen. Ziel ist es, mit einem transdisziplinären Forschungsinstrumentarium zu untersuchen, welchen Beitrag digitale Formen des Dokumentarischen praktisch leisten können, um wissenschaftlich fundiert und zugleich verständlich und interaktiv komplexe Sachverhalte dazustellen und zur Partizipation an aktuellen Diskursen anzuregen.
Entlang der Achse der Universitäten Bayreuth-Hamburg (PD Dr. Anna Wiehl und Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber) sowie in Kooperation mit weiteren Institutionen werden deren spezifische Expertisen in der Filmwissenschaft bzw. digitalen Medienwissenschaft zusammengeführt. Ausgehend von Netzwerktreffen und gemeinsamen Forschungsprojekten werden Methoden entwickelt, die es ermöglichen, derzeitige Transformationen im Dokumentarischen zu untersuchen und diese hinsichtlich ihres Potentials zur gesellschaftlichen Teilhabe zu evaluieren. Erkenntnisse werden in transdisziplinären Workshop auch für andere Disziplinen nutzbar gemacht.
Um Nachwuchswissenschaftler in die scientific community einzuführen, wird eine virtuelle Ringvorlesungen organisiert; Forschungsergebnisse werden in einem Online-Kurs aufbereitet, der aktuelle Phänomene so präsentieren, dass ein attraktives Lehrangebot entsteht, aus dem einzelne Module auch in anderen Lernumgebungen eingesetzt werden können.
Transformationen des 'Dokumentarischen im Digitalen' werden dabei gleichermaßen durch drei Prismen betrachtet:
1. Das Prisma des Dokumentarischen: Untersuchung der Evolution audiovisueller dokumentarischer Praktiken in ihrem Verhältnis zu anderen medialen Praktiken
2. Das Prisma der 'new' media studies: Analyse der spezifischen Optionen interaktiv-partizipativer dokumentarischer Praktiken
3. Das Prisma der medialen Performanz: Untersuchung der prozessual-dynamischen Dimensionen des 'Dokumentarischen im Digitalen' und der Optionen, die sie zur aktiven Teilhabe an gesellschaftlichen Diskursen bieten.
The project focuses on the momentarily expanding spectrum of interactive digital documentary practices. It sets out to develop a transdisciplinary methodological instrument to analyze the practical potential of emerging practices to negotiate complex issues and to stimulate participation in topical discourses.
Along the research axes between the universities of Bayreuth and Hamburg (PD Dr. Anna Wiehl and Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber) with adjacent partner institutions, the initiative combines the expertise of film studies and (new) media studies. Network meetings, collaborative research activities and publications are to lead to the development of innovative methods which allow to analyze and evaluate topical transformations – especially with regard to their potential to promote participation in current discourses.
In transdisciplinary workshops, the research results shall be applied to develop concrete concepts to open up complex issues for a larger public and enable user-participants to become (inter-)active agents.
A virtual lecture allows early career researchers to find their way into the scientific community. Moreover, the results of the project are implemented in an online course designed for blended learning formats. This course consists of modules which can be taken separately to be used in other learning environments in other disciplines and at other universities.
In a transdisciplinary research design, transformations of documentary practices are analyzed through the combination of three complementary prisms:
1. The prism of 'the Documentary': Analysis of the evolution of audiovisual documentary practices in their relationship to other media practices;
2. The prism of 'new' media studies: Analysis of the specific options of interactive documentary practices;
3. The prism of medial performativity: Analysis of the procedural dynamic dimensions of the Documentary in the Digital, of their functionality in concrete projects and of the options they offer for active participation in current discourses.
