Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in the study if you performed work, whether paid or not, that affected the content or aesthetic presentation of a comic book, minicomic, graphic novel or webcomic that (1) was initially made available for public consumption (2) was released in the English language. If you only worked in the fields of newspaper or magazine comics/cartoons, illustration, or animated cartoons during the last 3 years, thank you for your interest but you are not eligible to participate in the study.

If you agree to participate, you will be asked a series of questions about yourself and your career in comics. This survey will take you 15-20 minutes to complete. A progress bar will show you how much you have completed as you go. You will also be asked if you are interested in volunteering for a follow-up interview. This is entirely optional and does not affect our use of your answers.

The survey will ask you about yourself, your work life, and some of your attitudes towards working in comics. You can skip any question you don't want to answer and quit at any time by closing your browser window. Only responses completed by clicking the “submit” button at the survey’s end will be used. If you choose not to volunteer for a follow-up interview, no directly identifying information about you will be collected. Interview volunteers will be asked for their name and email address so they can be contacted later. This information will be stored separately from the survey data, and once interviewees have been contacted it will be destroyed.

NOTE: DATA COLLECTION FOR THIS PROJECT HAS ENDED. IF YOU WERE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE, YET STILL WISH TO CONTRIBUTE YOUR EXPERIENCES TO THIS PROJECT, PLEASE EMAIL SBASSETT@PDX.EDU.
