Meet Councilwoman Neville

Cydny A. Neville was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She is a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School (c/o 1995). After graduating high school, she headed to Petersburg, Virginia in pursuit of higher learning from the school "on the lofty hill," Virginia State University! Cydny completed her bachelor degree in English, with a minor in Mass Communications in 1995. She went on to earn her masters degree in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix in 2010!

As the CEO of an education based non-profit, and public school teacher, she is passionate about access to education, empowerment, and opportunity for all people.

Ms. Neville is a past employee of the Town, who took pride in: establishing Dumfries Cares, successfully planning Town community events, and securing grant funding to support initiatives - which also supported job creation in the Town without added costs to citizens.

Ms. Neville is currently appointed to serve on Virginia's State Historical Records Advisory Board. She is a fearless advocate for: youth, the homeless, Alzheimer's, elder care, education, economic empowerment and access to opportunity for all - which she believes are the fabrics that bind our community!

  • She was the 2016 recipient of the Junior League of Northern Virginia’s "Julia Doig Wilcox" award, for selflessly serving the Northern Virginia Community.

  • She was honored to be recognized by the Omicron Zeta Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., as the "2017 Social Action" honoree.

  • 2017 Honored by the Governor and First Lady of Virginia as "Adult Volunteer of the Year!"
