An online discussion hosted by AACP Dr. Altha Stewart
Theme: Is there a role for mental health in combatting community violence?
Highlights: The attendees discussed their concerns over rising community violence and the false attribution of such violent events to people with mental health diagnoses. Social determinants of health and access to fire arms were explored as potential causes. The Policy and Advocacy Plank will continue exploring ways in which the AACP can advocate for community resources that would target a decrease in violence.

Theme: Is the current mental health crisis constituting a public health emergency?
Highlights: A mix of members in training, early career psychiatrists and AACP veterans discussed the growing staff shortage issues, pipeline problems in social work, psychology and psychiatry, burnout and the challenges and benefits of working remotely.
