Research

Luigi Schirone's research is mainly devoted to electronics for power systems. In this field he is working in new design methodologies for power conversion systems aimed to increase efficiency, reliability and power density.

Power Electronics

The activities in the field of power electronics, carried out in collaboration with important Italian and European laboratories, are aimed at the development of switching converters intended to explore the state of the art in terms of efficiency, compactness and reliability for the applications in Space, Automotive and Renewables.

Aerospace

In the field of electronic systems for space applications, the main topics deal with reliable design and modularity in on-board power management. 

In this field his group has developed power conversion units in collaboration with major companies and European institutions. Also builds on-board instrumentation and functional flight units for the satellites launched by the School of Aerospace Engineering in the Sapienza University of Rome.

Renewables and sustainability

The health of the planet can be made compatible with economic well-being only by widespread use of renewable energy. The contribution of Luigi Schirone ranges from development of new devices for renewable energy harvesting, to energy storage systems, to electrical power management and distribution systems.
