Luigi Schirone is a professor of Electronics at the Scuola di Ingegneria Aerospaziale of the Sapienza University of Rome.

His research is mainly devoted to electronics for power/energy systems. In this field he is developing new design methodologies for power conversion systems aimed to increase efficiency, reliability and power density. He also worked in smart power sources, energy harvesting, photovoltaic technology and renewable energies.

His group develops and builds power modules for spacecraft, planetary rovers and aircraft. Systems for wireless transmission of power were also developed.

He is the author/co-author of nearly 150 scientific publications.
