PLAR (PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT & RECOGNITION

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition  (PLAR)

PLAR is the formal evaluation and credit-granting process whereby students may obtain credits for prior learning. Prior learning includes the knowledge and skills that students have acquired, in both formal and informal ways, outside secondary school.  Students may have their knowledge and skills evaluated against the expectations outlined in provincial curriculum policy documents in order to earn credits towards the secondary school diploma. The PLAR challenge process is conducted annually and beginning with an information session in January/February and ending with students completing PLAR assessments in April/May.

Students interested in the PLAR challenge process should review the TDSB site carefully as there are a number of steps involved in the PLAR challenge process. A registration link for the PLAR challenge information session can be found on the TDSB site.
