Year 6 Term 1 Goals
Student Expectations: I will
Use an appropriate simple structure to organise my text when writing for familiar purposes, such as recounting and explain writing.
Write mainly simple and compound sentences with some variation in sentence beginnings.
Use simple conjunctions correctly, and correctly apply subject-verb and noun-pronoun agreement.
Use capital letters correctly for sentence beginnings and proper nouns.
Use full stops, question marks, or exclamation marks to finish sentences.
Make some changes to my texts for clarity and accuracy, usually in response to feedback.
Year 7 Term 1 Goals

Independently and successfully use correct text structure for narrative writing - Orientation/Beginning; Body; Conclusion
Experiment with language features used when writing to narrate, e.g adjectives to describe characters and their personality, descriptive language, action verbs, time linking words, specific nouns.
Write simple and compound sentences that vary in length and beginnings, and are usually grammatically correct.
Attempt to write complex or longer sentences by including phrases that provide more detail.
Attempt to structure my text into paragraphs by organising related ideas together.
Correctly use capital letters, full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks.
Use commas for lists, punctuation for dialogue, and apostrophes for contractions that are mostly correct.
Make changes to my writing for clarity, impact, and grammatical correctness, often in response to feedback, using my knowledge of sentence construction and correct punctuation.
Year 8 Term 1 Goals

Demonstrate confidence and use correct text structure appropriate for Narrative Writing - (Orientation, Body, Conclusion).
Select and use language features for effect, including passive voice, present tense, precise topic words, action verbs, cause and effect words, rhetorical questions, nominalisation.
Write simple and compound sentences that are grammatically correct, with a variety of beginnings, structure, and length, and some complex sentences that are mostly grammatically correct.
Organise related ideas into paragraphs, using some cohesive devices to link ideas.
Correctly use subject-verb agreement, tense agreement, pronouns, and prepositions as well as capital letters, full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks.
Attempt more complex punctuation, such as apostrophes for possession, commas to separate clauses, and semicolons.
Make changes to my texts, often in response to feedback, for clarity and fitness for purpose.
