My team rules/philosophy:

1) Everyone supports each other and have fun. The goal is to create a life-long love with this sport while trying to win!

2) Everyone needs an individual score goal and a team goal.  These goals can change as the season progresses. The top eight from practice will play each match based on their score cards and overall average since tryouts, however head coach has right to alter for violation in team rules/philosophy.

3) Once practice or a match begins, no cell phones. If it becomes an issue, we will just all turn in all phones before we begin. If you are using your phone for a range finder, please talk to be about that.

4) We travel together (school van) for away matches - music on your own.

5) Keep your grades up or you can't practice or play.

6) Come to every practice (Unless sick from school or approved trip).  For practice, we will work on the range, putting/chipping area, and play some holes on the course.  We may only do range work one day or putting/chipping.  We may go out in large groups of five to six and only play three to four holes to work on course management or send out foursomes to check overall scoring.

7) Come prepared for golf: team shirt (any collared shirt for practice is fine) , clubs, balls, shoes, tees, towel, ball mark repair, water, hat, glove, sun block, umbrella etc. Also, make sure to check green area and traps for left over clubs and items from your group or previous group.

8) Be honest - Do not embellish your score or your position on the course - cutting strokes does not help anyone!  Honesty and credibility comes from doing the right thing when no one is watching.

9) There are no gimmies - put out everything. Last putter should not have to put pin in.

10) Etiquette: Respect the course - leave it better than you found it.  This means raking out traps, fixing a ball mark and one other, fill in divots when possible, saying "Fore" on wayward shots, not going ahead of your group, no yelling or swearing(there will be s swear/quit/negativity jar), and furthest out always plays first.

11) On Greens: mark ball behind not in front, do not step on line of playing partners, offer to hold pin etc., watch your shadow, watch line of sight during putts and stay immobile, and again fix ball marks and one other.

12) Pace of play - it is ok to be bad at golf, but it is not ok to play slow! Limit practice swings - move out of the way to let other groups pass during practice if you are struggling.  It is ok to think on the course - just don't over do it while stopping play behind you. FYI your first practice swing is probably your best!

13) For matches, you need to work it out! What happens on the hole is what happens on that hole.  You and your group must agree on each score, or a rule interpretation, or any other items that may arise.  Coaches can help with rules and possible scoring issues, but it is best to work it out amongst whomever is playing. I will get everyone a rules sheet plus provisional play as well. Also, make sure you agree on what ball you are playing before the round and have "like" backups with either your marking or same number ball etc.

13) This is one of two sports in high school (tennis) that you can play forever. You are all 14-18 and you can play until you are 90 or older! Try to get 1% better each day.

14) I will be everywhere that I can be - I always have my cell phone on me if you need to get ahold of me. I will be on the range, at the putting green or traps, and on the course to support all of you and help in any way that I can.  If you do not see me, I am on the course so just contact me if there is an issue.  Just again be mindful unless this is in an emergency, since I do not want you on your phones ever while we are at the course.

15 Basic Rules:

1) 14 clubs max in your bag.

2) Play behind tee markers and within two clubs of them and back.

3) Play the ball as it lies unless allowed to clean and place, or roll the ball based on course and coaches agreement, or move per rules below.

4) Pay attention to out of bounds markers. Hit a provisional if any question to whether or not your ball is OB.

5) Understand hazards and markers - found below. Take drops from knee level after marking where you should drop at.

6) Lost ball - play provisional like OB #4. You have three minutes to look for ball.

7) Unplayable lies - see rules below.

8) You get cart path relief - see rules below.

9) Whiffing or missing ball on swing counts.  However, hitting on address does not count.

10) No real practice between holes.

11) Don't really ask for or give advice - and spectators (parents/friends/family) must stay away from you and no communication. (About 30 yards)

12) Bunker rules - no ground of club!

13) Mark golf ball once on green - you should also fix spike marks and divots. Flagstick may now stay in while putting if you wish.

14) Finish hole with same ball you started hole with. Also, never touch another player's ball.

15) Sign scorecard correctly after agreement - and agreement should be made after each hole.

TP:

1 - This opening Par 5, at 490 yards from the blue, offers a challenging tee  shot over the "twin ponds" with bunkers  on both sides of the fairway.  A good tee shot and you can try to get home in 2.

2 - A medium distance par 3, this hole is protected by bunkers on both sides of the green.  Trouble to right with trees and you don't want to be long on this one.  The nice flat green is birdie friendly

3 - A good drive on this short par 4 and you could have a short chip to this  green.  Once on the huge sloping green your work has just begun.  Hit it to the right off the tee and you will have some trees to contend with.

4 - This straight ahead par 4 has a rolling fairway and an elevated green.  Beware the water down the left side of the fairway.

5 - This uphill par 3 features a two tiered green that slopes back to front.  If you find yourself on the wrong tier you will have your work cut out for you.  This is a hole where too much club will send you out to Gilbertsville Road.

6 - From the white tees, this par 5 is very reachable in 2.  Out of bounds on the left and trees to the right make an accurate tee shot a must.  Approach shots that hit the front of this sloped green often roll back to the fairway.

7 - With OB to the left and trees to the right, an accurate tee shot is a must for this short par 4.  The rolling fairway leads to an elevated green well protected with bunkers.

8 - A large pond is lurking to the right of the fairway (out of sight from the tee) on this dog leg left and will gobble up any errant shots.   Trying to cut the corner may leave you in the pine trees.

9 - This small flat green can yield some birdies if you are fortunate enough to stick your tee shot on the green.  A bunker guards the left front of the green and any long shots off the tee could  end up in the clubhouse.

COURSE RULES: (These may change over time or have been slightly modified since 2019)

RED Staked Lateral Water Hazard

 A water hazard may be designated as a lateral water hazard when the hazard’s shape or position on the course makes it difficult or impossible to drop the ball in accordance with the rules while maintaining a fair playing position. For example, if a water hazard runs parallel to the line of play and the ground on the far side of the hazard has many trees or bushes and very few playable lies, it may be designated as a lateral hazard. If your ball is in this hazard you may not ground your club or remove loose impediments.

          You have one of the following options when playing the ball:

▪ Play ball as it lies…NO PENALTY.

 ▪ Play another ball from the spot where your previous stroke was played…STROKE AND DISTANCE.

▪ Player may drop a ball behind the hazard anywhere along the line extending from the hole through the point where the ball entered the hazard… ADD 1 STROKE PENALTY.

▪ A player may drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.… ADD 1 STROKE PENALTY.

=====================================================================================================

▪ Player may drop a ball behind the hazard anywhere along the line extending from the hole through the point where the ball entered the hazard… ADD 1 STROKE PENALTY.

=====================================================================================================

Out of Bounds (Stroke and distance penalty)

                If your ball is out of bounds (outside white stake/line), You have must follow this procedure:

▪ Play another ball from the spot where the previous stroke was played…ADD 1 STROKE AND DISTANCE.

▪ Example: Tee shot goes out of bounds, go back to Tee and re-hit. You are now hitting 3 from the Tee.

====================================================================================================

Lost Ball (Stroke and distance penalty)

                If you are not able to find your ball, you have must follow this procedure:

 ▪ Play another ball from the spot where the previous stroke was played… ADD 1 STROKE AND DISTANCE.

▪ Example: You are not able to find your Tee shot, go back to Tee and re-hit. You are now hitting 3 from the Tee.

=====================================================================================================

NO Relief Situations

The golfer must play the ball as it lies …or take a penalty stroke for an unplayable lie when:

▪ The ball lies next to a fence, wall or stake that defines the out-of-bound area.

▪ The ball lies next to trees or bushes that inhibit golfer’s swing.

▪ The ball is embedded in a hazard.

▪ If a ball lands on a divot or in a divot hole, the player must play the ball as it lies.

===================================================================================================

Other Situations

▪ A golfer knocks ball off tee at address…NO PENALTY (ball not in play).

▪ A golfer can remove a RED or YELLOW stake that impairs the swing or stance, provided the golfer does not move the ball.

▪ When the ball is overhanging the hole, a player is allowed reasonable time to reach the hole and then up to 10 seconds to determine if the ball is at rest before marking the ball or tapping in.

▪ If a player hits the ball of another golfer (the wrong ball), that player must correct his mistake by going back and playing his ball from the correct location…….2 STROKE PENALTY.
