Support for pupils from Ukraine
If a pupil from a family displaced by the war in Ukraine enrols in a Stirling Council area school or nursery, please immediately contact the ASN Outreach EAL team for advice and support by emailing asnoutreach@stirling.gov.uk
Some Important Considerations
Ukrainian citizens' first language may be Russian instead of Ukrainian.
Children and their families may have experienced significant trauma so help and wellbeing support is the first priority.
Ukrainian and Russian use the Cyrillic alphabet so pupils and their families may be unfamiliar with the Roman alphabet used in English. This may impact use of technology as they can't read the keyboard letters. This onscreen keyboard can help with typing for translations Ukrainian and Russian
Use of interpreters to support learners is essential and is strongly advised for the initial meeting with families. EAL teachers should also be invited.
Ukrainian textbook - English as a modern foreign language

While this can be a useful activity for newly arrived pupils, it should not be used as an alternative to supporting pupils to learn English and to access the class curriculum. Please consult an EAL teacher for further guidance.Ukrainian Children's Story books
