Test CompRemote for BlackBerry phones beta

The server for CompRemote, CompRemote.jar, can be downloaded below.

To use CompRemote:

First, start the server on the computer that you want to control.

The server requires Java. If Java is installed on your computer, you should be able to double-click the downloaded CompRemote.jar file to start the server.

Please note that you do not have to extract any files out of the compremote.jar file; simply double-click it.

Once the server starts, type in a password into the password box and press Start. You will need to enter this password on the playbook  to connect to the computer.

Then, the CompRemote app will display your IP addresses. These will be required for the CompRemote app to connect to the computer.

On the Playbook, enter an IP address and the password you entered into the server on the start screen.

If a connection error occurs:

-try a different IP address, if there is more than one for your computer.

-check if the password is incorrect.

-check if the server is running on the computer.

-check if the PlayBook is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

-check if the computer has a firewall. Configure it to allow the CompRemote server to communicate.

If the connection is successful, this screen will appear.

The main gray area at the center is the trackpad. Touch and drag to move the mouse cursor.

The two buttons at the bottom are the left and the right mouse buttons. Touch to click.

The striped area at the right is the scrolling area. Drag it to scroll. (This area will hide when the tablet is in portrait mode).

Troubleshooting:

-I can't connect; the app keeps saying that I am disconnected from the computer.

Check if you entered the same password on your computer and in the Playbook app.

-I can't connect; a connection error occurs.

See the section dealing with connection errors above. Note that Wi-Fi must be on and the computer and the playbook must be connected to the same network.

-I can't drag with the mouse/I can't hold down both mouse buttons at the same time.

This is a known bug in version 2.0. It's fixed in 2.1, which has been released.

-The server does not launch.

Check if you have the latest version of Java installed.  If you can only install Java 5, you might want to try CompRemote_for_java5.jar.

-When are you going to add an option to display the screen of the computer?

Not soon. In the meantime, try using a VNC client.
