In the Church vestry is held a scrap book with newspaper cuttings marked "in Memory of Edgar Clarke-Smith". Some cuttings have a date handwritten beside them. Many are probably from the South Eastern Gazette. The following is believed to be from 2.11.1897:

CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION-A smoking concert, organised by the Wateringbury Conservative Association, was held at the King's Head, Wateringbury, on Wednesday evening, Colonel C.E. Warde, M.P. presiding. The Chairman proposed the health of their absent President, Colonel Davies, and said they all knew why he was not among them that evening, he having been called upon to fill the highest civic office in England. He (the speaker) was sure they would wish him success during his Lord Mayoralty, and congratulate him and his family. Mr. Augustus Leney proposed a vote of thanks to the member for Mid Kent, and also a vote of confidence in the Government. He remarked that their member conscientiously represented them in Parliament, and worked very hard for them. Colonel Warde, in replying to the toast, prefaced his remarks with a brief allusion to the sudden death of the Duchess of Teck. A musical programme arranged by Mr. S. Mendel was carried out during the evening. The contributors included Messrs. W. Walmsley, C. Hewit, G. Hewett, J. S. Hardy, G. Starmer, L. Blinskin, J. L. Bygrave and A. Dunkin.
