People Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Dog
While many people foods are also safe for dogs to eat there are some you should avoid - Here is a list:
This is a list from the ASPCA - The items toward the beginning of the list tend to be the most toxic. The comments are my own - use at your own risk - no waranty!
Chocolate
Coffee
Tea
Caffeine
Alcohol
Avocado
Macadamia Nuts
Grapes and Raisins (Grapes and raisins contain an unidentified/unknown toxin and can cause kidney failure)
Yeast Dough (Uncooked yeast dough can expand inside the dog's stomach after being eaten. It could even cause the stomach or intestine to rupture. Cooked dough/bread is ok for dogs to eat. Whole wheat is more healthy. Cooked bread should not be more than 10% of a dog's caloric intake)
Raw and Undercooked Meat, Eggs and Bones (While wild wolves eat raw foods, most meat, eggs, and bones available to us are contaminated with bacteria. Some people feed there dogs a raw food diet and believe it is more healthy. Personally, I have had the experience where my dog ate some raw meet off the floor and got sick to her stomach.)
Raw and Undercooked Fish In addition to the dangers associated with raw meat, certain types of raw fish can be potentially fatal to dogs. Salmon (salmonid fish) and other anadromous fish can cause salmon poisoning.
Xylitol (Xylitol is a sweetner)
Onions, Garlic, Chives (These items aren't very toxic but dogs shouldn't eat large quantities of them. Garlic is considered a home remedy for fleas)
Milk (This is hard for dogs to digest, but small amounts is OK)
Salt (avoid giving dogs extremely salty foods)
