What We Believe

Our Parish Priorities

Each year, the vestry (the vicar plus an elected body of people from the parish) have a planning day in which we prayerfully consider our priorities as a parish.

Our priorities for the coming 12 months are:

  1. Helping people to grow as followers of Jesus Christ

  2. Caring for and serving others

  3. Having worshipful services for all ages

  4. Welcoming newcomers

  5. Children's and youth ministry

The Anglican Church

We are part of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand.. There are many differences between individual Anglican churches, but we hold four things in common:

  1. The Bible as a basis of our faith in Jesus Christ

  2. The Nicene and Apostles' Creeds, basic statements of Christian belief

  3. Recognition of the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion

  4. The historic episcopate; that is, the continuity of the line of bishops since the time of Jesus Christ

  5. Children's and youth ministry

The Diocese of Dunedin

We are part of the Dunedin Diocese - which extends southward from the Waitaki river. The Diocese of Dunedin seeks to Respond to God’s Call in Otago and Southland: Faith Communities reading the Bible, praying, living out the life of Jesus Christ. More information about the diocese can be found here.

Our Mission

The fivefold mission of the Anglican Church is:

  1. To proclaim the good news of the God's Kingdom

  2. To teach, baptise, and nurture the new believers

  3. To respond to human needs by loving service

  4. To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind, and to pursue peace and reconciliation

  5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
