The European Climate Foundation report: €50bn / $70bn / year investment needed until 2025

The European Climate Foundation report has concluded that it is possible for European electricity generators to reduce emissions to practically nothing by 2050, thereby surpassing the 80% reduction target. The study found that EUR 52bn (USD 70.77bn) investment per year up to 2025 is necessary in order to achieve this and that in the long term it would be more beneficial to start the transition to cleaner electricity generation sooner rather than later. Currently, electrical generation costs an average EUR 30bn per year. By 2050 it is estimated that 40% more energy will be required in the EU, Norway and Switzerland. The report highlighted efficient energy use as a solution, as well as the withdrawal of coal-fired power stations as soon as their operational life expires. source: vattenfall.com/en/pressreleasedetailhidden
